Driving New England
At noon on Saturday we drove out of Manhattan and onto the Bronx River Parkway. We were off, for two weeks of semi-vacation that would include a visit with family in Cambridge, Massachusetts and the Skowhegan School of Art and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine. Our first stop was for lunch with friends. An hour out of the city the enclave of Waccabuc consists of a post office and country club. Houses hide among the trees, while a stone chapel sits beside an unpaved road marked only in the faintest gray on the map. This was our friends first weekend to entertain in their remodeled home. After lunch the wives drove to the post office to walk Linda and Ellen?s favorite loop. We passed by Ellen?s old home which she viewed with a detached smile.
