Piece Description
Balkanopolis with Slobodan Trkulja Budapest Jazz Orchestra with David Kweksilber From the mountains of Serbia, folk music meets modern jazz when Balkanopolis takes the stage. The Dutch/Serbian group is led by Slobodan Trkulja . Their clarinet and guitar unisons are razor sharp and spine-chillingly accurate. From the soft Romanian oboe (duduk) to the electric bass and guitar, the ensemble finds a fresh voice in deeply rooted tradition. The Budapest Jazz Orchestra usually sticks with classic American jazz but at Budapest's big eared FONO music hall they add the renowned Dutch reedman/composer David Kweksilber, known for lyrical playing with symphony orchestras and passionate small ensemble jamming. Tunes by Miles Davis, Sammy Nestico and more. Daniel Frankl hosts.
