Robert Cummings, a Canadian musician, who has been living in Germany for over a decade puts a new twist on Germanic Alpine music. He is trying a crossover with dub music. Supported by Bavarian zither player Moe Jaksch, German Yodel artist Doreen Kutzke and the British harmonica player Malcolm Arison, they are committed to beam the lost magic of Alpine music to our contemporary age. Their project is called Alpendub.

Review of AlpendubWhat's not to love? High-altitude polkas complete with yodels. Absolutely wonderful. Can run as is, but would suggest a little less talk -- for instance: when the guy says "We have ways of making you play German music," we don't need to hear anything more. |

Review of Alpendub
Great use of audio, mixture of voices and accents, music familiar and strange. The focus of the piece, the dub-music/yodeling sounds pretty cool. I like that kind of music a lot. It's very interesting, and I think other listeners will agree. It almost has a mockumentary feel to it, though I'm sure it's not. It would be fun to play on April 1st along with several pieces like it and one mockumentary and see who could pick out the "real" one. But, any day of the year, this is an interesting listen.
