Compact Discoveries Program 40: "Music of 'Rospighi'"

To create the ballet music for "La Boutique Fantasque" ("The Fantastic Toyshop"), Ottorino Respighi orchestrated piano pieces written by the famous opera composer Giacomo Rossini as part of his "Sins of Old Age." Respighi orchestrated other Rossini piano pieces into a suite called "Rossiniana." These delightful combinations of compositions by Rossini and Respighi constitute what Fred Flaxman calls the music of "Rospighi." The pianist is Paolo Giacometti, and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra is led by Antonio Janigro.
