There's a new television series, Creature Comforts, on CBS. All of the conversations in the show are real - slice of life documentary style interviews with real people, but the animators put them in the mouths of these ultra-cute claymation animals. It's from the guys behind the movies, Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run. For Lu Olkowski the voices behind some of the characters on Creature Comforts are especially familiar.
Originally aired on Studio 360 on June 16, 2007.

Right around Thanksgiving, a lot of my family conversations sounded like this.
Dad: What about two gorillas? Mom: I?m not a gorilla. No way. Dad: An anaconda. Me: Mom wanted to be? Mom/Me: Lovebirds. Dad: I?ll take you to the zoo, you could see what appeal they have. Mom: I don?t want to be a gorilla.
My parents? voices are going to be given to characters on the claymation show, Creature Comforts.
John: What about ducks? Me: Oh, I can see them as ducks. Kind of squabbling, arguing a little bit, but still kind of sweet. Dad: Quack, quack, quack, quack. Quack, quack. Mom: that could be, too?
The show wanted to keep my parent?s animal identities a secret, so after a year and a half of interviews - and waiting - they still don?t know what they?ll be.
Dad: imagine Brooklynese coming out of a toucan? Debbie (sister): Or what about a bald eagle? You really like bald e...

Review of Meet the Bees
I loved the premise of the piece, since I love Creature Comforts and I also love people's voices. Besides, there simply aren't enough public radio pieces about contemporary, pop, and/or media culture. The producer's parents have adorable voices, which she captures pretty well (though I kept hoping for a laugh out loud moment that never came). I liked being able to switch my mind's eye between an older couple of people, and an older couple of bees. Overall, however, Lu's read lacked some energy or presence, and the overall pacing of the production was kind of loose. I think the piece has enormous potential for fun and originality which it only partly fills.
