Piece Description
After hearing a surprising message from my older brother, I couldn't stop thinking about my poor, old dog Melvin. Divorce pulled me 10 hours north from my old pal six years ago, and I couldn't help but think that things might have ended differently if I were still there with him. Actual voice messages from my family frame the story. It's not as sad as you think (though it did make my mom cry a little). I think you'll enjoy it. I am a true radio rookie - this is my first piece ever! I would absolutely love some feedback.

Review of Melvin is DeadIn this debut piece, Sally uses the death of her dog Melvin to reflect on her life. This first-person narrative is peppered with witty metaphors and has an excellent flow, anchored by memories of Melvin. Although the bookend actuals are hard to hear at normal volume levels, Sally's delivery is clear and warm. She talks to the audience like she is talking to a good friend, rather than simply reading the script into a microphone. There's a twist ending, but I won't spoil it. |

Review of Melvin is Dead
Hilarious and witty sound postcard on the loss of a family pet who's older than God.
Great first effort and I encourage more entries.
Writing is personal and her delivery is at times a bit fast but very conversational.
Sound of phone calls need to be boosted and clearer as it can be distracting, but you get the essence.
Love the ending!
