Ray and Vivian Menaker have lived in Alaska for over 45 years. They share their adventure of getting to the Last Frontier which took six weeks. They moved from their home and careers in California because Ray took a job as the sole teacher at a one room school house in the remote fishing village of Pelican. There they gained a great appreciation and respect for the Alaskan fisherman and re-live some of their experiences there. Ray and Vivian spent a year there and then accepted jobs as teachers in Haines Alaska because of the school music program and arts opportunities for their children. This piece is the first of many about the Menaker's long and facinating life. Track three of four on Insight Passage Productions, Alaskan Life Portraits, stories from the Last Frontier.
