Stravinsky @ 1-2-5: Three Glances at the Composer's Mirror
Series: Stravinsky@125
From: Jackson Braider
Length: 01:00:25
Stravinsky's sound, Stravinsky's style, Stravinsky's farewell: no single hour, however authoritative, could convey a detailed biography of the man or a deep measure of his work. In Stravinsky @ 125: Three Glances at the Composer's Mirror, independent producer Jackson Braider follows three threads in the Stravinsky story: the unusual location where he recorded so much of his music, his persistent use of large musical forces to play short musical works, and his Requiem Canticles -- a work dedicated to the memory of a rich Texas widow, but one that saw Stravinsky himself off to his eternal rest.
Among the people interviewed for these stories: John McClure, Stravinsky's longtime producer at Columbia Masterworks; Gregg Smith, the choirmaster behind many of Stravinsky's recordings, including the Requiem Canticles; and John Heiss of New England Conservatory, a gifted composer and theoretician deeply connected with the work of Igor Stravinsky.

Stravinsky @ 125: Three Glances at the Composer's Mirror
Igor Stravinsky: a child of Czarist Russia, a darling of pre-war Paris, a composer in Hollywood who never did film. How can you possibly fit all that into one hour of radio?
(Greetings Prelude: end 0:59)
The answer is, you can't, but over the next 60 minutes, we'll certainly give it a try. Coming up, Stravinsky at 1-2-5, three glances at the composer's mirror ? a birthday tribute to Igor Stravinsky. We'll meet John McClure, Stravinsky's longtime record producer, the composer's favorite choirmaster Gregg Smith, and John Heiss, the man Stravinsky called his ?pitch doctor.?
And along the way, we'll talk with a physicist and an economist or two to see how the composer exists to this day in ?the real world.?
I'm Jackson Braider. Welcome to Stravinsky @ 1-2-5. Our journey begins at Stravinsky's local American Leg...
