Compact Discoveries Program 36: Old-Time Music by Vieuxtemps
Vieuxtemps means "old times" in French, and the 19th Century Belgian violinist Henri Vieuxtemps composed seven old-time romantic violin concertos worthy of his name. Fred Flaxman features the fourth and fifth concertos in this program, both performed by Itzhak Perlman with the Orchestre de Paris conducted by Daniel Barenboim, plus Vieuxtemps, humorous variations on Yankee Doodle.
First broadcast and distributed nationally by the WFMT Radio Network in 2003. The original program has been re-edited under a reversioning grant from the National Endowment for the Arts through the PRX Reversioning Project.
