This piece is written in the form of a letter to my fifth grade teacher lamenting the fact that science fiction books and movies are lumped together with horror and fantasy. I've taken the approach that there's a conspiracy of geeks infiltrating the territory of the true sci-fi believers.
As a newbie I do not know the legality of the numerous audio clips that I've borrowed to compose the background and sound-bed for this work so perhaps that aspect should be considered before anyone moves forward in terms of broadcast.

Dear Miss Langford:
I?m writing to you because you were my 5th grade teacher and a real role model for me, and I wanted to thank you for changing my life and to alert you to a danger in the world. It all began when you brought a book to school and read it aloud to the class. It was called, The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet by Eleanor Cameron. - Two boys building a space ship with their own hands and traveling to well? you know. Wow!
Up until that day I thought books had nothing to do with me and I?d not yet heard of science fiction. Review of Science Fiction Friction
This wonderful offshoot of the traditional "commentary" is backed up by a lot of good audio and effects. It's about Sci-Fi, so there are sci-fi effects. I'd like to hear one of Frank Deford's harangues with some sports sound effects and see if it improves it this much. This is what radio is about, right? I'm not saying everything needs lipstick, but this unconventional piece is a much better listen when written as an open letter to an old school teacher and with some good production values. Yeah, I'd like to hear stuff like this on the radio. Beats most commentary-types.
