Lan Samantha Chang, director of the Iowa Writers Workshop, appears on this episode of New Letters on the Air. In January, 2006, Chang began serving as the first female director of the prestigious University of Iowa Writers Workshop. At age 40, she's also the youngest to hold that position. In this program, Chang discusses how the subject of her Chinese heritage impels her to write, as well as the challenges of directing an acclaimed MFA writing program. She also reads from her highly acclaimed short story collection, Hunger: A Novella and Stories, as well as her most recent novel, Inheritance.
