Piece Description
The link between crystal meth, gay men and rising rates of HIV came to the attention of health service providers in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2004. While the connection between crystal and rates of HIV are contentious amongst some in the community and some in the health services sector, it is agreed upon that the use of the drug is cause for alarm. In this audio diary, two men talk about the drug and how it is used in the gay party scene. One man is a recovering user and is HIV positive. The other is a drug dealer. Neither uses their real name for fear of repercussions in the community and in their personal and professional lives. The men do not know one another and do not talk to one another. In combination, their stories provide a small window into an otherwise invisible corner of society: drugs and sex.
