When Gilberto Gil burst on the scene in the 60s, the sweet sounds of bossa nova ruled Brazilian airwaves. Gil infused the music with psychedelic guitar riffs and surreal lyrics.
[bring in instrumental intro section of ?Domingo no Parque? under reporter track]
Gil and his lifelong friend Caetano Veloso mixed rock, Brazilian folk, and bossa to create a cultural and political movement they called Tropicalia. They parodied the country?s military dictators on a TV show that was supposed to showcase mainstream pop.
