Host Intro: This is Poetry Off the Shelf from The Poetry Foundation. The Poet and translator Marie Ponsot was born in New York in 1921. Her first book, True Minds, was published in Lawrence Ferlinghetti's City Lights series in 1956. Her poems are both verbally complex and extremely formal. They approach the occurrences of everyday life with intelligence and drama. In this next poem, Anniversary, Ponsot struggles with her new familial roles as a wife and mother.
