Piece Description
The Hammond B3 organ offers many options to the jazz musician, and German organist Barbara Dennerlein makes use of them all-- plus she has added a few of her own. Dennerlein fell in love with the instrument before reaching her teens, and she was performing in her native Munich by the time she was thirteen. Today Dennerlein is one of the world's greatest organists, playing both the Hammond B3 and the full pipe organ. She has made over a dozen albums, led bands, and composed much of her repertoire. Her use of the organ's foot pedals to play bass lines is without equal. Dennerlein has modified her organ with MIDI technology and continues to explore the possibilities of her instrument with the passion of a pioneer. She also plays the pipe organ, and the blues has never sounded quite like it does when she plays it on a church organ. In jazz and blues she finds the mirror of the human aspiration for freedom and creativity.
