Kirsten and her father don't really talk to each other, but they still connect: through video games. Read the full description.

Images_small Kirsten's father is a police officer who won't let her leave her Chicago home by herself. They don't talk much, but together, at adjoining computers, they bond by killing villains and demons...and each other. Great video game soundbed under a funny, sweet narrative. Curie Youth Radio is a writing and radio production class at Curie High School on Chicago?s Southwest side. Here, students create their own stories: fresh takes on everything from snowball fights to gang warfare. They see their stories as a way for teenagers in one Chicago high school to reach out to the rest of the world.

Review From another youth :)

I loved this piece. It had a nice beginning, building up the connection you had with your dad, and you edited it well with the music and sound effects from games. The ending line is amazing "I love being with my dad, even if we are killing each other" Great Job.

Review of To the Death with My Dad

This piece gave a new light to the long debated violence vs. videogames debate. Kirsten's story helps others to see how bonding can take place in unexpected ways. The sound effects were used very effectively, even adding the computerized "game over" toward the end of the piece. My only problem with the piece is how uneven the volume of the piece is; the piece is very quiet toward the beginning and gets louder toward the end. I was very impressed and humored by the piece! Congrats!
