Description:

Many big band shows have a 'swing-museum' format featuring music from the 1930s to the early 1950s during the heyday of big band swing.

By contrast, Gano's 'Big Bands, Blues and Ballads Too' emphasizes modern groups and singers performing their interpretations of standards. New compositions and arrangements are featured which give fresh vitality and excitement to the big band art form.

In addition to playing the recordings of the large number of first rate, contemporary aggregations in the jazz meccas of New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago, there are the 'showcase' bands of the armed forces, i.e., The Airmen of Note, The Army Blues and the Navy Commodores. In additon, Gano takes considerable pride in discovering and featuring new works by an impressive array of regional jazz orchestras and many outstanding university ensembles.

Vocal features on each show sample the recordings of singers and groups that can be closely aligned with the current big band genre. e.g., recently discovered phenoms,- Diana Krall, John Pizzarelli - the time-tested 'late greats'- Ella, Frank, Rosemary and the 'still greats' - Steve and Eydie, The Manhattan Transfer, Tony Bennett,to name a few.
