Virtuoso Voices - Yolanda Kondonassis (Moon Theft)

Series: Virtuoso Voices(tm)
From: Listener Directed Productions, Inc.
Length: 00:00:16

Clair de Lune (Moonlight) is one of Claude Debussy's best known works, and it's the perfect introduction to the "Impressionist" school of composition Debussy helped develop during the early 20th century. He wrote it for the piano, but Yolanda Kondonassis says it really belongs to the harp. Use this 16 second clip to introduce Yolanda Kondonassis playing Clair de Lune by Debussy. Piece Description

According to harpist Yolanda Kondonassis, "Debussy was a composer that was just tailor made for the color of the harp, it's something about the wash of sound and color, not unlike the wash of color you see in a Monet painting...." For those reasons, she believes Debussy's Clair de Lune (Moonlight) belongs on the harp -- and not on the piano for which it was originally composed. Use this clip to enhance your introduction of Yolanda Kondonassis playing Clair de Lune by Debussy. (Telarc CD 80622 and 80418) http://ykharp.com/disc.html This clip could also work well as an enhanced Forward Promo or Billboard.

SUGGESTED HOST INTRO
One of Debussy's most popular compositions is a shimmering tribute to the light of the moon. Clair de Lune (Clare duh loon), or "Moonlight," was written for the piano, but Yolanda Kondonassis (kahn-doe-NASS-sis) likes to plant her own flag on Debussy?s moon.

CLIP TRANSCRIPT
"(Laughs) I know I'm going to anger many pianists by saying this, but I think "Clair de Lune" belongs on the harp. It works beautifully, and it's, it's just... it's made for the harp. The tone color, it just couldn't be more perfect, and it's no wonder that it's played so prolifically by harpists."

SUGGESTED HOST OUTRO
Yolanda Kondonassis (kahn-doe-NASS-sis) plays Clair de Lune (Clare duh loon), or "Moonlight" by Debussy.
