She had this mud mask on her face that was drying ? there were still about seven minutes to go before she could scrub it off. It was beginning to itch and pull the skin tight around her mouth. She could barely squeeze a martini olive through her lips. It happened then ? an epiphany really ? when she realized that she?d reached this point in her life where it seemed only right that she learn how to make a proper souffl?.

She looked in the mirror and these two round Al Jolson eyes stared back at her. She wondered ?Wasn?t there a time when every hostess strived for a crab souffl? that rose above braised lettuce, stuffed mushrooms and three-pepper chicken? Where did those days go? Oh Julian dear? she yelled into the next bedroom, ?Let?s do have the Tomchins over for dinner next month, shall we?? She didn?t wait to catch his response.
