But now things have changed, as Rob Cameron reports from Prague. Segment 2 - Maltese Translators in Short Supply Maltese is one of the 20 ?official languages? of the EU. And this is a problem as it requires people to translate from Maltese into 19 other languages! But as Sophie Nicholson reports, there are not too many people around who can do that. Segment 3 - English Infects Dutch One hears English ALL the time in Holland - on the TV, on the radio, the songs - even much of the advertising is in English! But why? And what is happening to the Dutch language as a result? Reporter Mindy Ran asked Doctor of Linguistics, Marc van Oostendorp. Segment 4 - Crisis in British Foreign Language Teaching So few students are enrolling for language courses that many language departments in schools and universities are having to close down. And this worries both the British Government and industry. Mike Muehlburger reports. Segment 5 - Caf? for the Deaf Opens in Paris Customers are encouraged to order their meals and pay the bill by using sign-language - all part of a drive to provide work for the disabled and help them mingle more with the general public.
