This is a story about storytellers I tried to meet and interview at a local festival.
I'm nervous about submitting this story to the PRX because I'm not satisfied with it. My main goal was to learn what would be involved in putting together a "This American Life"-type piece (a story line with music, narration, interviews, and ambient sound). This story is not TAL quality or even broadcast quality for that matter. Pulling together a piece like this involves a lot more than I ever imagined, and I'm not satisfied with the results of my first try.
I don't think this piece is any good, but I'd like feedback from others who have the time to let me know "why" it isn't any good. What all is wrong with it? I have some ideas, but I want more input. I think this could be a great learning process for me.
This piece has never been broadcast.

Review of First Try: Meet Virginia
This piece has great sound texture--all sorts of music, great ambi, interesting voices--though it did take me a bit to figure out what the piece was about. Virginia? The Storytellers' Conference?. Later some of the sound detracted from joshua's thoughts on storytelling. But he does come to some interesting personal conclusions and made a very strong first piece.
