The holiday season offers people a chance to take a break from the chaos of their daily lives and spend some quality time with their loved ones. It should be a joyful time, but the joy of the holiday season can easily turn to grief for those who are mourning the loss of a loved one. WYPR?s Justin Levy reports.

The Clarence Mitchell Courthouse is a large, imposing, stone building. Its dim hallways are long and wide, echoes bounce off the marble walls. They were nearly empty on a night last week. Inside a cavernous room on the fourth story, the glow of florescent lamps reflects off the grey linoleum floor. The 30 people gathered here were family members of homicide victims, brought together by Baltimore City State?s Attorney Patricia Jessamy.
