Piece Description
This Interview will air in 2 Parts on AVR. This week is PART ONE. Tonight on Active Voice Radio we're going to delve into a topic that has historical resonance and great importance in the present political reality of America: The FBIs infiltration of different civil groups. During the 1960's and 1970's the FBI ran surveillance on or gained access to dozens of groups and kept files on numerous individuals?even john Lennon. But perhaps the deepest and most deadly infiltration occurred within AIM or the American Indian movement. Today we are finding out that even peaceful anti-war groups like a Quaker meeting in Florida have come under the close scrutiny of our most powerful domestic agency. Joining us today is Steve Hendricks. Steve is a freelance investigative journalist who has written for the San Francisco Chronicle, the Nation, the Boston Globe and the Seattle Times. He spent four years in Montana researching his newest book. The Unquiet Grave: The FBI and the Struggle for the Soul of Indian Country. The book is a hard examination of the practices and policies used by both AIM and the FBI during a time when America's Native People were finding their voice and regaining a place in modern American society. Also music from the new group LOVE KILLS THEORY
