Peace Talks Radio: Youth Mediation and Anti-Bullying Programs (58:00 / 54:00 / or Two 29:00 programs)
Series: Peace Talks Radio: Hour Long Specials
From: Good Radio Shows, Inc.
Length: 00:58:49
Peace Talks: The radio series about peacemaking and nonviolent conflict resolution strategies.
This is one of many newscast friendly hours that are currently available from Good Radio Shows, Inc. and producer Paul Ingles.
On this edition of Peace Talks, we're going back to elementary and middle school. But first, remember middle school? The intensity, the awkwardness of 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Puberty arrives, school work gets harder, clicks develop, maybe you start dating? Yikes! The growing pains that begin in middle school and intensify in high school often lead to disagreement, conflict and sometimes fighting between young people. We're starting today's show with a focus on youth mediation programs that are designed to help. Host Suzanne Kryder (pictured) talks with Lily Irvin Vitella - the executive director of New Mexico Center for Dispute Resolution in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Ellie Dendahl who coordinates a school mediation program in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Also on the panel, Elena Carnes, a high school senior who survived middle school and writes for the Sandia Prep school newspaper in Albuquerque.
In Part Two of this program, we'll hear from a 9-year old who's having to deal with someone we all remember from our younger days, the bully. Her stories will drive our conversation with a couple of adult counselors who will offer some tips that can help ease that age-old conflict.
The two parts of this hour-long program are also available as discrete half hours at PRX as well.
