POWDER RIVER. Season 1. Episode 1: THE PREACHER
Series: POWDER RIVER Season 1.
From: Jerry Robbins
Length: 00:26:19
Join former lawman turned rancher Britt MacMasters and his son Chad as they begin a new life for themselves in Clearmont, Wyoming ... but Britt's past returns to haunt him, as one of the toughest outlaw gangs in the west is headed towards Clearmont for revenge!
Originally intended as a 15 episode mini-series, the popularity of this show encouraged CRT to continue production. POWDER RIVER now has a total of 60 half hour episodes available for broadcast.
Powder River is performed in the style of a classic old time radio show, not dissimilar to the Six Shooter and Gunsmoke, but the production quality is very much in the 21st century with crystal clear stereo sound, thousands of sound effects, and a completely original music score.

Review of POWDER RIVER. Season 1. Episode 1: THE PREACHERAs soon as I hear this episode of POWDER RIVER, I was hooked! Designed to feel like the old radio westerns of the 1940's, with an ensemble cast of characters and sound effects galore, I couldn't help but remember how much fun all those westerns were, and how good it felt to have one back again. This first episode is suspenseful, as the protagonist isn't even known to us until it's almost too late. Wild west fun! |

Review of POWDER RIVER. Season 1. Episode 1: THE PREACHERWell produced and uncontaminated by irony, Powder River makes the assumption that there are still adolescent imaginations capable of stimulation by something other than the surrogate mayhem of an X-box. This is the sort of radio drama that speaks to the inner twelve-year-old boy, best listened to on the living room rug with a mug of Ovaltine, facing the fabric-covered speaker of an Atwater-Kent. As such, it makes another assumption: That the target audience has or is willing to develop an attention span. Powder River is both a promise and a challenge to its young audience and should be programed away from the sort of high-octane children's radio that might overwhelm the simple strengths of this very faithful homage to the sort of radio that once shaped a nation. |

Review of POWDER RIVER. Season 1. Episode 1: THE PREACHER
A wild west tale that introduces a former lawman and his son and the inhabitants of a small Wyoming town. Through the interaction of the characters, we get some insight into what life might have been like on the frontier. Reminiscent of 40's & 50's radio and early television westerns like THE SIX SHOOTER or THE LONE RANGER or ROY RODGERS AND DALE EVANS. Just right.
