Piece Description
The Colonial Radio Theatre pulls out all the stops in this magnificent production of the Charles Dickens classic! Newly recorded in 2004 (from their original 1998 script), "A Christmas Carol" is a great match for radio theatre, and CRT has remained faithful to the book in every way. Jeffrey Gage has created one of his finest music scores - from the powerful, booming opening of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," to the frightening tones of the Ghost of Christmas Future; add a fantastic cast, thousands of sound effects,(you supply the egg nog) and you have a holiday treat for all ages. Now in our 12th year, The Colonial Radio Theatre on the air continues to produce audio theater dramatizations of the great events that shaped America (Gettysburg, the Alamo), classic literature (Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Captain Blood), adventure serials (Powder River, Yankee Clipper), musicals (Jack and the Beanstalk), and the New Dibble Show comedy series. CRT's Awards include The Parents Choice Award (2000) for "The Wonderful World of Oz" The Gold Ogle Award (2005) for "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"

Review of A CHRISTMAS CAROL By Charles DickensIt isn't Christmas without Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL, and this production done by The Colonial Radio Theatre on the Air is a wonderful production, full of copious enriching sound effects and incidental musical accents to create the necessary eerie atmosphere. Well done by an able cast of experienced actors, this production is a must for anyone who loves all the traditional hubbub appoaching the Christmas holidays! This is exactly the thing that we should be broadcasting on the radio in approach of the Christmas holidays because it is such an excellent production of classic holiday literature, and it just might influence someone to pick up a book and read again! |
