Piece Description
Musician George Harrison is warmly recalled in this montage of music and fan reflections, first issued in 2001 at the time of Harrison's death. To mark the anniversary of his death (on or near November 29) or any time, it can be run as either a two-hour tribute, or you can take just the first hour which can stand alone as it makes no reference to a follow-up hour. Hour One includes Harrison's work with the Beatles and takes listeners to the beginning of his solo career. Hour Two complements Hour One with more selections from his solo career. The program is not cut to accomodate a newscast, nor are there any breaks for local announcements (since it was prepared as a memorial program). However stations absolutely needing newscast holes, or breaks for announcements to consider running it can contact the producer (paul@paulingles.com) and request such an edit. Also included is a bonus module that samples Harrison's final posthumous recording "Brainwashed." There is also an 8 minute module that can be used in other music or news programming. The program is segmented but as mentioned above, in this cut of the program, the segments should be run consecutively. The segment breaks come in mid-stream.

Review of George Harrison: An Appreciation (59:00, 118:00 or 8:00) [Died 5 years ago 11/29]Sometimes music speaks volumes about the artist's growth, as a musician and as a person, better than the artist him/herself. George Harrison had always been the dark horse of The Beatles. I don't mean musically as part of the band, but as someone who held together the bandall those years. With Harrison, the best part was, you could have identified with him in your own way, with your own reasons. This piece is essentially about how his fans have identified with him over the years. His fans have always found ways to look inside of themselves through his music. What do I mean by that? Let's just say they have always felt that by listening to his music, he was somehow listening to them. What struck me, while listening to the many, many clips of music presented here is the consistency in theme throughout his career. His beliefs as a 19 year old and how he perceived the world around him never really changed. Five years have passed since his death. 'All things must pass,' he'd said. Listening to this appreciation of George Harrison, as crafted by Paul Ingles, I can't help but think of him as an Easterner with a Western name. |

So glad to have found this here!
I had listened to this documentary repeatedly before it found its way here, and I'm so glad to see it's found another home. The interviews are heartfelt without being hyperbolic or overly saccharine, and just hearing the clips of both Harrison's music and some of his comments is a wonderful experience. If this is every available for purchase as a download, count me in! Also check out the other Ingles works.
