Piece Description
This program features several players of the "one-string" or diddley bow. It is centered around the remarkable Eddie "One String" Jones who was discovered on a Los Angeles street in 1960 and recorded a few times before he left the area. Jones made his own instrument whenever he needed to. Talented and confident, Jones was a consummate entertainer. The hour also includes harmonica plaer Edward Hazelton, discovered at about the same time as Jones. Hazelton's dark mood is in strong contrast to Jones' ebullience. Other one-string players in this program include One-String Sam, who amazed audiences at the 1973 Ann Arbor Blues & Jazz Festival, Lonnie Pitchford, and the late Jessie Mae Hemphill.
