Thousands of U.S. Servicemen and women are returning home from Iraq and are left to deal with the after-effects of war. Advocates say current funding levels for the Veterans Administration are not enough to keep up with the influx of vets seeking treatment for a variety of injuries, both physical and mental. Among the issues examined in this half-hour news special are soldiers struggling with post traumatic stress disorder, homelessness among veterans, the higher rate of traumatic physical injuries suffered by troops serving in Iraq, and the family related adjustment issues many soldiers face when they return. The question of whether the government is doing enough to help Iraq veterans is discussed with a New York VA official.
