Diaz_small This hour of The Blues & Beyond explores some Latin jazz, focusing on a new album, Echu Mingua, from Cuban percussionist Miguel Diaz, better known as Anga, that mashes up many types of music and sounds and culture. Anga offers novel interpretations of both Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane, and his new album Echu Mingua, his first as a band leader, also includes one of the last recorded performances of the great Cuban pianist Ruben Gonzalez of Buena Vista Social Club fame. The show also offers some other Latin jazz pieces, and music from Thelonious Monk, and Branford Marsalis covering John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme."
