Ever wonder why some Hip Hoppers are fascinated with the martial arts? Since the 1970's Kung Fu theater, Asia has had a semi-psycho-subconscious influence on American Hip Hop culture. The combative competition, lifestyle encompassing discipline, and choreographed moves of Kung Fu are staples of today's Hip Hop. And now Hip Hop is an international phenomenon. This program explores two interesting developments in modern hip hop culture: turntablists performing live to Kung Fu movies (Hop Fu) and the evolution of Hip Hop in China. Hop Fu founder and turntablist documentarian John Carluccio, The Mountain Brothers, and Shanghai DJ Angelito Perez Tan (DJ Apt) discuss this inadvertent trans-Pacific collaboration.
