wailing saxophones, from a newly available live album by the late Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and more Read the full description.

Kirk_small Saxophones will be wailing in this hour of The Blues & Beyond. A recording of Rahsaan Roland Kirk in concert in Germany has recently come out on Hyena Records. This blind jazz musician had almost magical powers. He could play three horns at once. He modified his horns to make them playable in "multi-instrument" mode. He was a post-bop & free-jazz experimenter who nevertheless had an acute pop sensibility. Also on this show from 1972, we have Eddie Cleanhead Vinson recorded at Newport in New York, with Gatemouth Brown on violin and Jay McShann on piano from a concert hosted by B. B. King. Vinson favored the alto sax, while most other modern playors gravitated toward tenor. His performance is exciting and entertaining.
