No one can predict the future, but today's political movements
hint at the direction democracy is taking. On university campuses,
students are more active than they have been in a decade. National
conservative groups are pouring money and encouragement into right-wing
student groups. Meanwhile, a number of causes are competing for the
attention of liberal, progressive and leftist students. Tracy Samilton of
Michigan Radio visits the University of Michigan - birthplace of Students
for a Democratic Society - for a picture of student participation in
democracy.

Review of The Next Generation: Democracy on CampusNice use of natural sound - the ending was a bit weak - but did give a good idea of what college political groups are like now |

Review of The Next Generation: Democracy on CampusThis University of Michigan centered report provides a useful update on the current campus political scene. We hear about conservative activists, anti-war, affirmative action, etc. We hear from a small but well-spoken and diverse group of students. I would have liked to hear from a few more, but mostly because I was interested, not because there wasn't enough range. For those distant from campus life, or college kids, a reminder that student life can be about more than studying and consuming. sl |

Review of The Next Generation: Democracy on Campus
What are the major parties doing to rally young people of college age? Tracy Samilton spends time at the University of Michigan, with its history of radicalism, and discovers the shadow of both Republican and Democratic party organizations preparing for next year's election--and more. She also addresses the assumed wisdom that conservative groups are gaing college members in droves. Like this? Also try Training Camp for Campaigners.
