Piece Description
Host Intro: Michael MacNeilla {Mack-NEEL-a} would scout spots for Dublin surgeon Bob O'Connell whenever he went out to the west of Ireland for a bit of fishing. Sometimes, the trout could be subtle, as O'Connell put it, but he could always count on Michael for a tale or two to while away the time out on the water. In this installment from the Tales of an Irish M.D., we learn about Michael's fighting dog. Bob O'Connell. Host Outro: That was Bob O'Connell with another Tale from an Irish MD. The collection was prepared for broadcast by independent producer Jackson Braider, who inherited the 1962 reel-to-reel tape recording O'Connell made for his grandparents.

Timing and Cues
Host Intro:
As recently as the 1960s, fairy tales were still living parts of tradition among the storytellers of Ireland, from Dublin to Galway, Dingle in Kerry to the Giants' Causeway in Antrim. From the series Tales of an Irish M.D., surgeon and storyteller T.C.J. "Bob" O'Connell offers up a cautionary tale of sorts about the DTs -- or Delirium Tremors -- when his fishing scout, Michael, describes novel symptoms of the condition.
Host outro:
This piece comes from the series, Tales of an Irish M.D., prepared for broadcast by independent producer, Jackson Braider. The original recording by Bob O'Connell was made in 1962.
