Default-piece-image-1 When Federal agents stormed several Muslim homes in northern Virginia last year, Mukit Hossain realized that the Muslim community could no longer sit still. He did what many American interest groups have done for years. He started a Political Action Committee called PACE (Platform for Active Civil Empowerment). With its non-partisan agenda focused on civil right and political participation, PACE has galvanized donors, voters and candidates alike. The candidates realize that the community is a voting block that just cannot be ignored. The first test of the PACE's progress will come this November, when it succeeds or fails in getting its candidates elected as county supervisors, sheriffs and board chairs.

This is the call to prayer at the third annual civic picnic for the Muslim community in Northern Virginia. It looks very much like any other American picnic with its barbecues, soft drinks, Frisbees, kids, and well ? speeches.
