Ronstadt_small This is a version of the Linda Ronstadt/David Bromberg piece for a Morning Edition or other newsmagazine segment. Linda Ronstadt is 60 on July 15th. Here's a suggested lead for this piece - more info is below. SUGGESTED ANCHOR LEAD IN: Singer Linda Ronstadt, who turn(s)(ed) 60 July 15, rarely gives interviews any more. Until fairly recently, she hardly gave concerts any more. But Ronstadt is back on the road and independent producer Steve Mencher got her to talking before a recent show in Wilmington, Delaware. There, Ronstadt was teaming up with an old friend - another music name from the 1970's, David Bromberg. Ronstadt remembered the early days when she and Bromberg last played together, in 1969, in the folk clubs of New York's Greenwich Village. OUT: Linda Ronstadt, recorded in Delaware during a recent concert stop with David Bromberg. The piece was produced by Steve Mencher and comes to you via PRX - the Public Radio Exchange. --- Background, continued... Rondstadt's voice was omnipresent in the 1970's and into the 80's. Her repertoire spanned folk, rock, American popular classics, and Mexican mariachi music as she restlessly explored every kind of sound and produced hit after hit. But in the 1990's, she retired from music to raise two children in Tucson, Arizona. Now she's back, touring and doing her favorites from a rich catalogue of pop. This piece is about collaboration and friendship. Ronstadt first met David Bromberg, who also had a great love of all kinds of American music, around 1969 in New York's Greenwich Village. He introduced her to her first big hit, and turned her on to several songs that became important in her career. In the Fall of 2005, the two performers reconnected in San Francisco, and Bromberg invited Ronstadt to join him at a concert in his new home, Wilmington, Delaware, where he has moved his violin shop, and begun to play after a 20 year sabbatical from music. There's another possible lead in station info...

Review of Linda Ronstadt at 60 with her old friend, David Bromberg (short)

Wow! I had forgotten how much I enjoy Linda Ronstadt. I'm longing to hear the entire piece. What I liked most was the relaxed conversation. I felt I was listening in to a couple of old friends hangin' out. You captured that, Steve, and that's not as easy as it sounds. I loved the way the clips faded over and under dialogue. Made the piece appear seamless.
I loved it...want more of it!

Timing and Cues

Suggested host intro:
Linda Ronstadt is 60 (July 15th). It's a sure bet that she won't be sitting around listening to her old hits today - songs that defined the 70's like "When Will I be Loved?" "Heat Wave" and "You're no Good." She's not a fan of her early music. But she was glad to talk about the old days when she reconnected with her friend, guitarist David Bromberg, to present a concert in Wilmington, Delaware a few weeks ago. The two first got back together in San Francisco last fall, and working together reminds them both why they're musicians.

OUTRO: over :10 applause that fades:
That report on Linda Ronstadt at 60, and her friend David Bromberg, prepared by independent producer Steve Mencher and distributed by PRX, the public radio exchange.
