The Zildjian Cymbal Tester

From: Jackson Braider
Length: 00:02:39

Leon Cippini wanted to be a great drummer; he became a great cymbal tester instead. Read the full description.

Default-piece-image-0 There's this thing about family business: Success is measured not so much in dollars as in tradition, not so much in growth as in loyalty. In those terms, the Avedis Zildjian Company has been wonderfully successful. The secret recipe of the alloy that goes into every cymbal has been handed down from Zildjian to Zildjian for the past 381 years. Now that's tradition.

And then there's loyalty: that's harder to measure. But when a young drummer named Leon Cippini joined the company in 1961 to test their cymbals, little did he know that he would still be working there 42 years later.

Independent Producer Jackson Braider caught up with Cippini on the Zildjian factory floor.

Review of The Zildjian Cymbal Tester

Quick, cool and interesting. It takes an element of music that everyone can relate to (starting with Mom's cooking pot lids) and suggests that there's more than meets the ear. There's enough technical information to please more serious musical types and certainly the kind of sound rich presentation that suits radio.

Review of The Zildjian Cymbal Tester

I love pieces like this. Cymbal Tester?!? It's like hearing an interview from someone who works at a shoelace factory in Ohio. I mean, they have to have something interesting to say, right?

And, there are a lot more to cymbals than you'd think. It was hard to hear the guy sometimes, for the variety of cymbals. I look forward to hearing it on D2D.

Review of The Zildjian Cymbal Tester

A short piece that might be good for a show on sounds, drums, or strange jobs.
