Default-piece-image-1 Suggested Host Lead: On May 1st 2006, in Bellingham , Washington 100's answered a call to action, sponsored by the "Not in My Country" Organization, came together to celebrate Diversity and honor immigrant workers in Whatcom County. Robin Carneen reports. Narrator: Robin Carneen: Nora Inda-Delagarca gained her legal status in 1974 through her brother. She followed her parents from Dallas Texas in 1978 to come pick strawberries & raspberry berries in Whatcom County. They have lived here for 26 years. When she worked in the fields she said 95% of the other field workers were Latin American. Today, she is county employee, a taxpayer and a homeowner. [She and her parents are part of] close to 200 people [who ]gathered together at 12:30 in at Sunset Square parking lot to join others at a "March for Justice for Immigrants "[ which will leave from Corwall Park and end] at Maritime Heritage Park, in Bellingham. Her father Rueben Delagarca, a 32 year long resident is now legally a citizen of the United States. He and his daughter wanted to take part in the March today to show support for the illegal immigrants: ACT: 50 secs: "We want an Amenesty for the people to come & pick the crops, because our kids are already established have their jobs here, are US citizens, so they of course are not going to pick the rasberries, the strawberries, the apples, it is the immigrants that are going to come here that are going to do that."(This is in spanish ?Rueben Delagarca & translated by his daughter Nora Inda-Delagarca). Fade to Background crowd noise (Viva la?.) Suggested Host outro: The Delagarcas were part of many Marches and rallies that happened all across the United States, numbering the 100?s of thousands. This particular May Day event was co-sponsored by the Whatcom Human Rights Task Force and the Whatcom Peace and Justice Center.
