This one hour program takes a look at the best of the African American Country music artists both present and past. The program features Grand Ole Opry favorite DeFord Bailey to present artists like Darius Rucker and Rissi Palmer. Read the full description.

Country music is a genre of American popular music originating in the Southern United States. This program features African-American country music signers and musicians. Many of them are unknown to greater listening audience with the exception of a few.

Some of the most popular artists are Charlie Pride, as well as crossover popular artists like Lionel Richie and Darius Rucker . Musician DeFord Bailey was both the first performer to be introduced as playing on the Grand Ole Opry and also the first African-American performer on the show. African American female artists like Rissi Palmer became the first black woman in 20 years to have a song on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. Music from Miko Marks and Vicki Vann who are amongst the new generation of young country artists are also included. Linda Martell , became the first African-American woman to perform at the Grand Ole Opry and appeared on Hee Haw in 1970.


The music of cardiologist turned musician Cleve Francis, Stoney Edwards and the Carolina Chocolate Drops , plus others give the program a special appeal.
