Description:

THE BALLOT, THE BULLET, AND THE BURKA:
As the western world, led by the us and its' allies, attempts to impose its' version of "democracy" and win the "hearts and minds" of the Islamic and Arab world, the stark cultural and political differences between the two civilizations have never been more apparent. The values of western society that we often take for granted, such as free speech, free press, freedom of religion, civil rights, and access to education are still largely absent in Islamic countries, especially with regards to women. The Islamic world finds itself in the midst of a fearsome dilemma, how can they remain true to their faith while still enjoying and participating in a modern world which is based upon values that many Muslims find troublesome, and in some cases blasphemous? We examine this and other complex issues with Asra Nomani, Islamic feminist and author of "Standing Alone in Mecca."

FEMINIST JIHAD:
While the Sunnis and Shia haggle over "democracy" and Islamic terrorists target "infidels", Islamic women are slowly embracing western values such civil and equal rights, and in some cases, even refer to themselves as Islamic feminists. This newly formed feminist movement openly questions the very foundation of Islamic beliefs and customs, much to the displeasure many Muslims. Ghazal Omid's new book "Living in hell" explains in harrowing detail exactly how dangerous life can be for a defiant Muslim woman as the Islamic world debates whether to reform or to resist. Join our Elinoar Astrinsky as she talks to Ghazal Omid on the state of feminism in the Muslim world.
