Piece Description

If you're not quite sure what to make of Hungary's upcoming parliamentary elections, you're not alone. To offer us some clues, Budacast has enlisted the talents of reporter Kester J. Eddy, an Englishman who first came to Hungary in 1982 and has regularly lived in Budapest since 1986. Over the years Kester has reported on the dissolution of communism here, in Bulgaria and in Romania. Today he regularly contributes to business and financial publications, including the Economist Intelligence Unit and Financial Times. Kester Eddy says that to understand the contemporary political scene in Hungary, one must understand that things were not black and white in the past. He says that while Hungary was indeed ruled by a communist regime, it was a regime that was fairly open and eventually willing to relinquish its power.
