A nickel in the hand
to buy some candy,
the sandy road leads
to the old store by the lake,
and that nickel in hand,
ready to buy me,
my hearts delight,
that warm summer day.
There are the willows,
that whisper and move,
on the waters edge,
the watery rim of the world,
frogs inhabit their shadowed roots,
as languid strands dance
like horses tails, in the fields,
and here is this nickel
this nickel in hand
for my hearts delight.
The day seems endless, forever,
the lake waters glimmer and call,
to dare the cool depths,
to skim the soft sheen,
to send ripples echoing
from shore to shore.
