As spring unfolds Americans turn their clocks forward. But why is there daylight-saving time? Why and when did it all begin? Bryan Le Beau's guest this week, Michael Downing, joins us with some answers. Downing is author of Spring Forward: The Annual Madness of Daylight Saving Time. Carlene Stephens joins us give a historical perspective on the relationship between Americans and time. Stephens is a curator in the History of Technology Division of the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Museum. She is the project director and curator of the museum?s permanent exhibition, On Time, and the author of the exhibition book of the same title.
