From: Barbara Bernstein
Length: 00:58:36
Stevie & Me and Reunions
Three short stories for the radio combining elements of story-telling, radio theater, documentary and original music. First broadcast on KBOO-FM July 8, 2003.
"Stevie & Me" is a coming-out story of first love that's lost and bittersweetly remembered. "Reunions (by Design and Surprise)" are two stories about people who for some reason unbeknownst to you keep popping up in your life. The second of these tales takes us back to the 40th reunion of the producer's sixth grade class, complete with documentary footage.

Review of Stevie & Me/Reunions (by Design and by Surprise)These stories are visual and Barbara Bernstein does a fine job of holding one's attention. The first module "Stevie and Me," is appropriate for any programming involving homosexuality. The second module is about synergy and serendipity: the unlikely and recurring reunion of two people who continue to surface in each other's lives. ( a public radio fundraiser is one venue that reunites these two---this could make a good spot for public radio fundraising) The third segment is a piece on Bernstein's school reunion. It has some good tape and to hear the trajectories of people's lives is always interesting. This would be good for a show about school reunions, or about the passing of time how people change---or don't. With this hour of radio the sum of the parts is greater than the whole; broadcast these pieces individually. |

Review of Stevie & Me/Reunions (by Design and by Surprise)
tender and interesting. i liked this piece. it's an unusual mix of documentary and radio drama, but it works well. at times it seems a little too slow and too delicate but overall very engaging. nice to listen to while hanging out at home on a sunday afternoon.
