Description:

Maine's working waterfronts are threatened. As property taxes soar and fishing opportunities dwindle, communities in Maine are seeking ways to preserve a way of life. The York Land Trust found a unique way to preserve open space and an historic landmark while expanding their harbor's working waterfront.

This audio art piece was created as part of a collaboration between Shunpike Audio, Coastal Enterprises, Inc. and the artist collective "Spurse" for an installation titled "Mapping The Working Coasts." The installation traveled on a 70-foot, former fishing trawler along Maine's mid-coast in September of 2004. The project featured maps of working waterfronts drawn by Maine fisherman and several audio art/oral histories.
