Foundation for Independent Radio Broadcasting (FNR) is Russian nonprofit/NGO, aimed at development of quality and independent radio broadcasting, which serve the interests of civil society. FNR is the only Russian NGO, producing its own radio programmes on regular base. Its purpose, shared with independent radio journalists internationally, is to promote the understanding and dialogue through the widening use of radio and New Media throughout the world and Russia in particular.

FNR provides unbiased, reliable and useful information in accordance with the best traditions of Russian and international journalism; promotes the development of Russian radio; and ensures the free dissemination of knowledge which allows the Russian people to better understand and evaluate the on-going processes and enable them to act in their own interests and in the interests of society.

In order to achieve that aim, we run our major annual event Festival of Regional Broadcasters “Radio Together”.

We support the scholarships, which provide young regional Russian radio journalists with the opportunity to gain the professional education and experience in Moscow.

We also produce the educational programmes on relevant social topics, like civic law ecology, social issues, consumer’s rights, economics, NGO activities.

In addition, in 2007 we launched the experimental broadcasting Internet-project “Podstantsiya”, which is an Internet-based radio portal conceived as a development platform for quality radio that appeals to the interests of university-aged Russians and the country’s wider online community.
