Our Taos Youth Radio Project gives middle & high school age youth the opportunity to create their own expression in radio segments broadcast locally in Taos, on KUNM?s Youth Radio in Albuquerque, and internationally on our web site. We work one on one with youth, as well as giving weekend workshop and longer trainings in the summer.

Cultural Energy is a nonprofit organization formed in 2003 to create radio and other media productions for Northern New Mexico. Our independent organization was formed to production facility with staff to train and coordinate volunteers who want to create media voices for youth, arts & activism.

Working with more than 30 volunteer producers, we create media segments and offer the completed works to radio stations locally and nationally for broadcast and web casting. We also train youth to produce their own segments. More than one thousand segments are available on line on our website with pieces on music, arts, writing, poetry, the environment, farming, land grants, acequias, law, history, politics, youth, health, religion, and much more.

We are now starting a new educational public radio station in Taos to serve the acequia and pueblo communities of Northern New Mexico. We plan to produce local programming with satellite studios throughout rural Northern New Mexico addressing the needs of each community and creating links between people in the North.

Current production facilities include a recording studio with Mackie Oynk Mixer, field & studio microphones, 5 mini-disks, 3 Protools Macintosh editing stations, classroom, office and meeting space, a high speed Internet.

We are funded primarily by memberships, and grant funding currently from the Healy Foundation, the New Mexico Community Foundation, the Surdna Foundation through KUNM, and the McCune Charitable Foundation.
