2005 Zeitfunk Awards Ceremony

The party's on the internet and everyone's invited

We've rolled out the red carpet and popped open the champagne. Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2005 Zeitfunk winners:

Most Licensed Piece

And the award goes to: John Ono Lennon Special from HearingVoices

Barrett Golding:
Thanks to PRX for providing the conduit to stations for our Lennon special. Thanks to Lynn Neary of NPR for sharing her personal stories as host of the hour. Thanks to mix engineer Robin Wise of SoundImagery.com, and to the producers who let us include their work: Paul Ingles, the Professor of WFMU, and Kate Sullivan and Prairie Home Productions of Pop Vultures. Thanks to the CPB and NEA for funding us. And thanks mostly to John Lennon for having so many damn good things to say and sing so our hour could really rock.

PRX is the single greatest force putting the public back into public radio.

Most Licensed Producer

And the award goes to: Leni Holliman

Leni Holliman:
We (all of us on the project!) would like to thank Lewis & Clark and their absolutely incompetent travel agent for the longest run of job security any of us has ever experienced!

On the value of PRX: where else in the world could we throw up our little program week after week for anyone to sample or license at any hour of the day or night? Maximum exposure, minimum effort, absolute thanks to everyone at PRX!

Most Active Reviewer

And the award goes to: Emon Hassan

Emon Hassan:
As a reviewer, I wish to help the audience better understand the gist of a piece. I try to make sure my reviews are about productions and not producers, what their intentions were, or ought to be. In essence, what one will find in my reviews are my opinions of how the pieces have convincingly presented stories, taking into account originality, structure, information, clarity, and voice.

Most Active Youth Reviewer

And the award goes to: Tie! Alla Pekareva and Ben Lavine

Ben Lavine:
I'd like to thank KBOO and the KBOO Youth Collective, and everyone at PRX!

As for my "statement", I'll just say that PRX is awesome. It'll always be there for us at KBOO when we somehow don't have enough material to cover our hour, and the work that they've done to encourage and distribute youth radio is amazing. By hosting youth made radio, they've opened up a new dimension to youth producers, a wonderful dimension filled with foreign things like "reviews" and "licensing" and "other people doing the same thing". It's great.

Most Licensed Station

And the award goes to: WNYC

Mikel Ellcessor:
Yes. It's true. PRX kicks righteous tail old school dragon-style!!!

Congratulations to everyone at PRX for another great year.

Most Popular Fundraising Piece

And the award goes to: Fundraising Funnies I and II from WFIU

Adam Schwartz:
My thanks go to WFIU Station Manager Christina Kuzmych for her support in this project, to the actors who lent their talents, and to my mother for giving me a sense of humor.

PRX is a valuable resource for WFIU. We use it to find documentaries, music programs, and promotional materials. We're grateful for its existence.

Most Licensed Producer Group

And the award goes to: L.A. Theatre Works

Kathleen Chapin:
L.A. Theatre Works is thrilled and honored to be the recipient of the 2005 Most Licensed Producer Group Award! A thousand thanks to PRX, particularly John Barth and Adrianne Mathiowetz, and to all of the stations who have licensed our shows over the year. More are on the way!

We are a small, independent producer, and PRX has been an absolutely invaluable resource for us. PRX is an innovative, user-friendly, highly effective tool for us to not only distribute our work to our regular stations, saving us a significant amount of time and money, but to get our work in front of the eyes (and ears!) of the public radio community. This increase in our exposure via PRX, and the subsequent results, could never have been accomplished on our own. It's been a great year working with the friendly and helpful staff at PRX, and we at L.A. Theatre Works are delighted to be a part of the PRX community!

Most Licensed Series

And the award goes to: PRI Holiday Package

Heidi Schultz:
PRI is proud to accept the Zeitgeist award for "Most Licensed Series" this year for the PRI Holiday Package. This award speaks to the importance of PRX to public radio stations - 226 licenses. Fantastic! Thank you so much for aiding PRI in the distribution of its special programming.
